Umut Brown

Director of Conference & Event Planning

Umut Brown joined Cal Poly Corporation in 2012 as its Director of Conference and Event Planning. She oversees conference and event operations for more than 125 conferences and events held at Cal Poly each year. In addition, she manages summer housing accommodations for the university. Umut has more than 15 years of experience in hotel, event and convention center management. This includes positions in five-star hotel management, and coordinating events and conventions for Europe’s largest convention center in Istanbul, Turkey.

She is foundation chair for the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa and has spent several years volunteering with a military Family Readiness Group (FRG). She is also a 2016 recipient of the San Luis Obispo Tribune’s “Top 20 Under 40” award, for recognition of innovative and dedicated community involvement.

Umut has a Bachelor of Science degree with dual focus in business administration/tourism and hotel management. She is also a certified mediator and is currently pursuing a Master of Legal Studies (MLS) as well as a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) degree.

Tammy Farrell

Senior Accounting Analyst

Tammy Farrell supervises the daily operations of all accounting functions for Conference and Event Planning. She has been with the Cal Poly Corporation since 1988, holding various accounting roles with the University Store. She started as a cash accountability clerk and advanced to senior accounting analyst, overseeing all accounting and financial reporting duties for the bookstore and satellite operations. In this role Tammy also worked with the store director and department managers to develop and coordinate the store’s annual operating budgets.

Scott Homolka

Conference and Event Coordinator

Scott has worked in the hospitality, entertainment and event planning industries across California for more than 20 years. Prior to his role with Cal Poly Conference & Event Planning, he was Assistant General Manager at a local 130 room hotel in Pismo Beach. Previously, he managed a variety of special events at Santa Clara University, Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Marconi Automotive Museum in Tustin and Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe.
Scott received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree in Marketing with a minor in Communication from Santa Clara University.

Donna Abbote

Administrative Coordinator

Donna has been providing administrative support for more than 15 years to a variety of businesses including the hospitality industry, engineering, accounting and law offices. At Cal Poly Conference & Event Planning, Donna oversees the office management and can assist you with event inquiries or general questions. Donna comes to the central coast from the Los Angeles area, and is also active in the coastal arts community.

Emily Locher

Conference and Event Coordinator

Emily has worked in the event planning industry for more than 17 years. Prior to her role with Cal Poly Conference & Event Planning, she worked in corporate events. Previously, she managed a variety of special events and conferences throughout the United States as well as internationally. Emily comes to the central coast from the Seattle area. She received a Bachelors from Washington State University in Communications and minor in International Business. Emily is currently pursuing a Masters in Industrial-Organizational Psychology.
